Fellowship
The Division of General Internal Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois offers a fellowship program designed to assist physicians in General Internal Medicine in the development of skills that will enable them to be successful in an academic setting. The division offers two different options for fellowship training. One option is the traditional general internal medicine fellowship track which is a two-year program with didactic and experiential components in teaching, clinical epidemiology, statistics, medical decision making, communication skills, and a health services research component involving an original research project by the fellow. A second option, the faculty development track, is intended to provide an intermediate ground between the traditional full-time fellow and full-time clinical faculty. This two-year track combines the didactic portion of the fellowship with an enhanced clinical component, complimented by involvement in ongoing research projects, and an intermediate salary.

Several courses within the fellowship are integrated with the Masters of Public Health degree program offered through the medical school. This enables fellows to meet the requirements of the fellowship program while earning credits toward the Masters of Public Health degree, should they choose that path. The curriculum for this program combines didactic and clinical/teaching facets which focus on solving clinically and academically relevant problems and provide opportunities to apply and practice skills with supervision and feedback. Mentorship is a key component of the fellowship program; fellows are assisted in the development of a line of research and have opportunities available to collaborate on numerous areas of research.
