NRSA-Funded Position The Division of Rheumatology at Northwestern University invites applicants for a post-doctoral training opportunity funded by a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health. The successful candidate will work closely with training program mentors to develop his/her skills as a clinical or basic research scientist, with the ultimate goal of performing independent, hypothesis-driven research, which is relevant to patients with arthritis, musculoskeletal or autoimmune diseases. Trainees may work with established NIH-funded clinical researchers employing the modern tools of epidemiology, health services research and decision analysis. An MSCI or MPH degree may be obtained as part of the training. Alternatively trainees may work with established basic researchers employing the tools of cellular immunology and molecular and cellular biology to examine disease pathogenesis, apoptosis, and signaling. The focus of the clinical and basic research includes osteoarthritis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Applicants must possess MD or PhD degree or be a candidate for such with an expected completion date before the start of training appointment. Stipend to be determined by NIH and University guidelines dependent upon education and years of post-doctoral experience. Health benefits and tuition for training-oriented courses will be covered by the fellowship. Positions are regularly available.
