The Illinois Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) held its 31st Annual Associates Meeting on November 9th. The event was hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago. This year, the meeting’s topic was Back to the Bedside, selected to “educate and challenge while further strengthening physical examination skills.” Meeting attendance was high, with Northwestern showing strong participation in the poster sessions and Jeopardy competition. The Northwestern Resident Medical Jeopardy team of Drs. Joyce Lee, Siddharth Shah and Seth Sweetser, continued a longstanding tradition by taking first place in the state competition. They will go on to represent Illinois at the national ACP meeting next May in San Francisco. Over ninety posters were presented at the Research Poster Competition, a record amount. Northwestern had four posters accepted, with Dr. Anne Henkel's submission Mice Over-Expressing Hepatic ABCB11 Rapidly Develop Cholesterol Gallstones winning second prize. Dr. Henkel is mentored by Rich Green, MD, Division Chief of Hepatology. Dr. Diane Wayne, MD, Associate Chair for Graduate Medical Education and Residency Program Director of the Northwestern Residency Training Program, was “Very proud of our residents’ research in general as well as their ability to interact with faculty members from a variety of institutions and answer challenging questions about their projects.” The other Northwestern posters were: Allison Hahr, MD Oligomenorrhea as a Marker for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and the Metabolic Syndrome Dr. Hahr is mentored by Andrea Dunaif, MD, Division Chief of Endocrinology. Prateek Mendiratta, MD, and Ben Kim, MD Treatment of Hairy Cell Leukemia with 2-Chlorodeoxyadenosine (2-CdA): Long-term Follow-up of the Northwestern University Experience Drs. Mendiratta and Kim are mentored by Martin Tallman, MD, of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. Sanjay Pandya, MD Human Mitral Valve Degeneration is Associated with an Osteoblast Phenotype Dr Pandya is mentored by Nalini Rajamannan, MD, of the Division of Cardiology.
