At the 2005 American College of Physicians Annual Session held in San Francisco, Northwestern University became the national champion in Resident Medical Jeopardy (Doctor’s Dilemma) winning the Osler Cup. Last November, the team won the Illinois championship. To make it to the final round, they competed against forty tough national opponents. After securing victories in the first two rounds by defeating teams representing many prestigious university and military programs, the Northwestern residents battled teams from Hawaii, the District of Columbia and Texas for the championship on April 16. Led by Drs. Seth Sweetser, Siddharth Shah, and Joyce Lee, the Northwestern team staged a dramatic come from behind victory and built an insurmountable lead heading into final Jeopardy. Cheered on by the chief medical residents and faculty members including Gary Martin MD, Jennifer Beall MD, and Jim Foody MD, our program’s team received the prestigious Osler cup in recognition of their national achievement. While it was a tough battle to make it into the finals, Department Chair Larry Jameson confidently predicted their victory. In July, Dr Sweetser will complete his residency and become one of the Department's Chief Medical Residents. Dr Shah will complete his internship and is considering a career in nephrology. Dr Lee, who plans a career in pulmonary/critical care medicine, will complete her second year of training in June. We congratulate the team for this excellent showing among many talented teams. |
