Chicago Life

The Northwestern University Medical campus is located in downtown Chicago.  This area is referred to as "Streeterville" and is renowned for its restaurants and access to the Michigan Avenue shopping district.  The Museum of Contemporary Art is only 4 blocks from the hospital.  Museum Campus is a short walk or cab ride away.  This area encompasses the world-class Art Institute of Chicago with its famous collection of Impressionist art, the Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium, and the Adler Planetarium.  "Sue" the dinosaur is also close by at the Field Museum.  Along with its world renowned museums, Chicago hosts world famous musicians from classical artists to leading Hip Hop and alternative rock groups.

The medical campus lies at the center of downtown, a short distance from many eclectic neighborhoods including Bucktown, Andersonville and Lincoln Park all with their own unique cafes, shops, bars and nightlife.

Favorite resident activities include running and biking along Lake Michigan, participating in intramural basketball and soccer, rock climbing at several walls downtown and playing tennis at the nearby courts.  Cubs tickets are distributed to the residents by the Department.  Residents also enjoy the professional sporting games of the Bulls, the Bears, and the White Sox.

Residents also find ample opportunity to volunteer in the community ranging from High School student mentoring to Habitat for Humanity as well as involve themselves in religious organizations.
