The Northwestern University Medical campus is located in downtown Chicago. This area is referred to as "Streeterville" and is renowned for its restaurants and access to the Michigan Avenue shopping district. The Museum of Contemporary Art is only 4 blocks from the hospital. Museum Campus is a short walk or cab ride away. This area encompasses the world-class Art Institute of Chicago with its famous collection of Impressionist art, the Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium, and the Adler Planetarium. "Sue" the dinosaur is also close by at the Field Museum.
Approximately half of current residents live in the Streeterville area in high-rise apartments on or near the University campus. This enables them to walk to work as well as to several public beaches on Lake Michigan. About one-third live in the Lincoln Park area, which is comprised of lovely neighborhoods, great restaurants, parks, and shops. Lincoln Park is a 15-20 minute commute to the hospital and is easily accessible by public transportation. The remainder of current residents live in neighborhoods such as Wrigleywille, Uptown, and Bucktown. Favorite resident activities include running and biking along Lake Michigan, participating in intramural basketball and soccer, and playing tennis at the nearby courts. Cubs tickets are distributed to the residents by the Department.
