What to do if exposed to blood and bodily fluids:


1) Wash the affected area with soap and water.  If mucous membranes are involved, flush with water

2) Notify manager and/or charge nurse of area in which exposure occurred.

3) Manager and/or Charge Nurse will need to facilitate obtaining blood specimens from source patient.

4) Report to Corporate Health or call them at (312) 926-8282.  If after hours, an operator will forward your call to a provider on call.

5) Corporate Health or the provider on call will obtain source patient blood results and evaluate the exposure.

6) Corporate Health or the provider will give instructions on care and follow-up required.

7) Complete employee incident report and give to your manager within one business day.
